Omega (Sister) visit Arizona and see the Wild Wild West (2002)

My sister, Omega is the most sarcastic and funny person in the family. Some people are just gifted with Wit. Omega came out and visited me in Arizona and we had a good time. We went to tombstone, Arizona and got to watch a reenactment of the Wild West. People got dressed up and acted out how it was like… You had your cowboys and your town prostitutes… Omega really got a kick out of the women who volunteered to play, “hoes” in their free time.

Our time was well spent and I was glad to have her. Omega now has a little girl name “Gabriella”. She is the sweetest little angel, pure sunshine. I can wait to get pictures.

Christmas in Rome...Pope gives Midnight Mass (2005)

This was so cool...I am not Catholic, but to actually witness all this tradition that has lasted for centuries was totally overwhelming. St. Peter's Basilica is where the ceremonies were conducted and our group was the first to enter the Cathedral. The magnitude of this Cathedral is indescribable...the ceilings made of pure gold, the rare marble stone, the art history and the actual remains of Peter, one of the disciples, who walked with Jesus. While waiting to get in the Cathedral, we were surprised at the crowds of religious devotees who traveled from all corners of the earth for this event. Nicole who is Southern Baptist, really experience a culture shock...not gospel choirs, that were rockin' back and forward and a choir directors screaming, " Can I get a witness, yall?". What we did listen to was just as profound, it was an all boys choir that sort of made you feel like you had die and when to heaven. I had to pinch my self; their voices were so peaceful.

At midnight, the big man, the head of the Catholic Church, the Pope entered the room and all hell, I mean people went crazy. I never saw, Nuns almost past out...it was like a strange rock concert. The Pope, looked so old...

I did not get a good picture because Nicole insists on using a digital camera that has limited zoom ability and is outdated. Just Kidding...it is me, why buy a new high speed camera, when the one you have works fine...with the exception that you could not get one good picture of a religious icon, like a Pope, who rarely makes public appearances. Anyway.

Lastly, the most profound thing about Rome is the Swiss Guards...what is up with those funny outfits? Well, the Romans probably look at our urban fashion and ask the same question. The Swiss Guard defend the Pope, in yellow and blue pajama pants and a heavy hat with red feathers...what is up with that?Nicole and I learned a valuable lesson on religious tradition and custom on this night…that Southern Baptist may not have grand Cathedrals, lined in Gold or little boys, singing like little girls… but the Baptist have in our opinion flare, excitement, people shouting, pastors yellin’, choir’s that make people want to stand up and scream, Hallelujah… and the best part for me…is after church service.. the food. Black churches never called food after church anything else but “we are having food after church”. Some people say, we are having a “Potluck”, I say we are goin’ to eat, after church. Anyway.

Daniel Douglas (Brother) visits Arizona and rides for the first time (2002)

Daniel Douglas visited John in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Danny as we call him traveled all the way to Arizona to experience something different and to see his brother, John.
The amazing thing is that Danny was determine to make the trip... He did not let anything stop him from making this journey. I was glad to have him also...the funny thing is that on this week trip, Danny did a lot of things for the first time.... he rode a horse (the Black Cowboy), he got his drivers license, and he drove to a drive thru restaurant (odd thing, but he relished this opportunity and independence) and not to mention he flew a airplane for the first time...
We also visited Mexico...
The most memorable thing about Danny in Arizona...was he developed such deep bonds with the cowboys on the trails, while going horseback riding...he forgot about me and just chilled with his horse and his new friends.

Priceless to see.

Traveling to England (2005)

We did not go to London but we found a delightful little town out side of the city and enjoyed the food and art district. We went and saw some very profound plays and met a wonderfull woman from Ireland who owned a resteraunt and treated us like we were royalty.

Cheers...

John in Hawaii (1997)-Aloha

It is very funny, that when you look back at old memories you start to think.. "Damn, I was so good looking it its makes me sick!!!?
I developed a very good friendship with a group of native Hawaiians, while singing a Bob Marley song at a karaoke bar. Later, they invited me to their place of employment, the Polynesian Cultural Center... I got in for free or as we say on the streets of Baltimore,"I got the hook up", and participated in a luau and ate the swine.
Every tourist should visit... they have the men who dance with fire, the hula dancers (Hot!!!, I mean the fire guy or the guy who dances with fire), and my big friend, who was attending the Mormon College in town, and was a drummer...it was cool hanging out with him before and after the shows.. I truly loved the spirit of the people, "Just Smile and be happy". My extensive knowlegde of anything and everything Bob Marley had made me a instant Karoke star...I was like the Black Michael Jackson.

And my hidden talent to make sand skyscrapers on the beach made me famous....for a few minutes...

After I left Hawaii...I flew in to Seattle and met my future wife Nicole in the Passenger terminal at McCord Air Force Base, Washington State.
